Finally some pics (not dialup friendly)

Looks great.

i remeber you were having some trouble with recession awhile ago, and you thought it was due to not enough current.

did you just add that maxijet and things pretty much took care of themselves?

thanks again.

Nick

I had the left sea swirl die on me. I got it fixed within two week, but didn't put it on the tank for about two months. When I noticed two of the coral near the bottom start receding I realized I pushed my luck too far. I put the sea swirl back on the tank and added an extra seio to help get some more current. I took about 3-5 weeks for them to slowly stop receding but they seem to be ok now.

very nice... can't you get to the corraline on the lower part of the tank? Have you tried that oceans motions magnet scraper? I had a similar problem because the long handled kint scraper couldn't make it down there without making frags... The OM scraper did the trick.

I keep looking at that scraper from them. Yeah I can't get the corners and top/bottom of the tank with the magnet. Funny thing is it really seems to bother everyone when they see my tank, but it doesn't really bother me, I guess that's why I haven't cleaned it yet.

Maybe I'll get the scraper from OM.

This is absolutely amazing!

Questions on sandbed ;)

How long have you been setting up the DSB? How do you maintain it so that it would not become a nutrition sink?

I am planning my new tank and I want to set up the sandbed correctly. Please share your experience. Thanks.

I have two fighting conchs to keep the sandbed white, also some tigertail cucumbers. Other than that I add about 2-3 pounds of new live sand once a year. I'm about 6 months over due on that right now though. Really that it for the maintenance of the sand bed. I run a cheatomorpha refugium, skimmer, use rowaphos, carbon and ozone for the whole tank as well. I'm sure they all help with keeping the tank going.

Now in magnificent Panavision. ;)

They are a very handy item.

I have mine mounted to a mag float. The only downside I see is they need about 2-1/2" of clearance on the inside of the tank. So if the corals get a little close to the glass, you might have a hard time getting it all with the mag scraper. Or, just frag it.

Other magnets might not be as thick.

Wow that came out great! Nice job, thanks.

AcroSteve

I'll check out the scaper, I've got a few places that will be close if not impossible to reach with the scaper.

Would a mag float be strong enough on a 180, or would I need to go with the tunze?

Jb where do you get youre live sand from? I am in need of a booster shot as well.

i use the magfloat w/the OMscraper... works great... buy a pack of blades and use a fresh one each time for best results

with that kinda build up... you may go thru a couple blades the first time you use it and may need to spend a good deal of time scraping.

after the initial scrubbing/scraping... it works easily and great as long as you dont let it build up again.

I just cleaned every bit of coralline off the glass three months ago. :D

yeah... i hear ya

years ago i prayed to the coraline gods, now i curse them
Somebody said if you keep Ca and KH at NSW level you will not see that much coralline.

Haha, no problem Joe. The Photomerge tool in Photoshop took care of it in a few seconds before I flew out the door to class this morning. On the other hand, there are some other panoramas (like my Lake Tahoe photos...cough...cough) that Photomerge is hopeless with, though, so I usually need to resort to manual labor for those. Photomerge loves TOTM shots though. ;)

So 4.5 years with the DSB...how do you think everything is holding up? You think there is still hope for those us who like sand out there? :)

Joe,

the best SPS tank IMO of all time. this was the one that got me hooked and many of us here in this thread.

keep posting those amazing pics! i hope i get to see this tank in person some day!!

BTW it was my b-day yesterday so you can send me one of everything as my present if you would like :D i'll give you my addy :D

Great as always, Joe!

Is that a Goni in the lower right?
If so, how long have you had it?
Do you give it any "special" attention?
