This is my first attempt at an acrylic sump/fuge. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

Looks good, I'm curious though, what are the small pieces of acrylic near the bottom of the tank? The ones that there appear to be 5 or 6 of...

It is 1/4" thick sheet of acrylic 4'x8' that I picked up for $99 at a local plastic store. HD and Lowes sell acrylic but its much more per ft than buying it by the sheet. I used just over half of the sheet. The solvent I think was like $10. What ever tools you deside to use is up to you so I'm not including that in the price spent since I had most of the tools I used.

Looks good! (and a good inspiration to build my own!) My only problem is I've been getting prices of $150 for the 4 x 8 sheet of acrylic. (Just need to find the right store I guess)

I see it looks like your a diver also!

Thanks for the compliment. As far as the weights its kinda sad to say but they're my girlfriends. They worked freekin great. But I do want to get into diving as well. Good observation.

Id say that is fantastic for your first DIY acrylic sump!! Top notch really.

BTW how old is the drill press in the background?

Thank you very much. As far as the drill press, its got some years on it. I have the belt cover sitting in the bed of my truck. We salvaged it off of a property my girlfriend owns. Lord only knows how old it is but I got to say it works like a champ!

very nice was this your first acrylic work? i have been trying to convince myself to do a custom one also but im not sure of the difficulty, could you tell us (or me) how hard it was to bond the acrylic and how long it took to dry or fuse together? what is your W x L x H on it to give me an idea if i need an 8 x 4 sheet...is that the smallest sized sheets? thanks and great sump!

After doing a little research, on this site and Google, I found it to be pretty simple to make. This site is full of great info. Also I found some info from a co. called Tap Plastics. they're web site http://www.tapplastics.com/ has a lot of how to videos. The sump size is 20"x12"x18". The acrylic bonds very quickly after about 10 to 20 min you can move on to your next piece. I bought the 4'x8' because I plan on doing some acrylic work and it is cheaper per sq ft to get the larger sheet. I know HD and Lows sell much smaller sizes.

ahh interesting how much leftovers did you have? my sump design is nearly identical a difference of a few inches thanks for the response!

I haven't decided yet but I'm going to ether use a branch off of the return pump or the out put of the phosban rectors or just an independent pump.
