I went to a lfs about an hour ago to pick up a couple true perculas and I decided to get my first coral. I picked up a 2 headed candy cane. I placed about half way down. Should I move it further down.

I would say move it down or under a lil shade ime. I have a nova extreme t5 (which obviously is extremely inferior to your set up) set up and my 2- 10 headed candy's hate being anywhere but the sandbed. I zipped tied them to a piece of tonga and placed the branch on the sandbed. Play with them for a while and you will notice the difference.

I keep mine right about middle level in moderate flow right under my 150w MH and they love it, anywhere else and they are no where near as 'plump'

I tried to feed it some mysis shrimp tonight. The mouth(green middle) closed up for a little bit and then opened up. Did it get some food or was it just irritated. Also there is a white bud hanging off one the heads. Is this a new head forming. How long does it usually take for a new head to form completely.

feel I must chime in here....
I have the nove extreme that 'serum' has except mine is 8x54w. Had it for over a year and love it. anyway, I have a HUGE amt of candy canes, all different colors. I have fragged a bunch and put them on those "aqua-mags". those magnet things you put on the glass on the sides. I have my canes smack dab right under all this light and they love it!!! they are all growing like weeds. this is an 80g bow aquarium. I also have a 55g w/ a coralife light-4x65w and I have two groupings of canes and they don't seem to be doing as well. they're alive but not like the others.

I have the same light fixture too. My candy canes used to sit towards the bottom, but they didn't grow very much and didn't inflate too much either. Few months back I moved them to the top, right under the lights as well. Now they balloon up like crazy and I get a new head start to split just about every week.

Trial and error...They are happy when they are plump. Candy canes will not grow out from the side. You will notice another mouth in the middle and then slowly you will see it build it's lil wall in between the 2 mouths.

As far as feeding - Mysis is a great choice ime and I usually wait about 30 minutes after the actinic's go off and the moonlights are on. All the tentacles are usually out by then and then I turn off all my powerheads and squirt a nice lil piece or 2 on each mouth with a turkey baster. It will swell up quite nice when it's eating. Be prepared to fight off your shrimp while trying to feed :) My cleaner goes crazy when I am feeding my pineapple brain and candy canes.
