I got my lens today and finally took my first real macro shots. Here are a few. I'm no pro.

I am not up on my Coral id's, what is the first pic of?

Superman Montipora Danae......

Great photos. I have that Lens as well. Were you using a flash? I'm curious about your shooting parameters, shutter speed, aperture etc.

Also, what are you processing with - Photoshop? I need to figure out how to do those frames like that. It makes the photo look so much more professional.

Anyway, again, great shots.

Thanks Jim....

No way, never a flash....

Each shot is different depending on where in the tank the subject is located, so no shot is the same. I'm always shooting at ISO 100, on a tripod, using the timer to prevent hand shake and perpendicular to the glass. I can't stress the last enough.

To me, one of the major factors in the photos above is the after processing. Yes, all done in photoshop. The proper cropping is imperative. Most of these shots have 1/2 of the picture cropped out. Then a quick and easy border.

There you have it....

Couple more...

You can download a free program called opanda that will tell you the camera settings when you load the pic into it.

Nice Superman Monti, how big is it?

Thanks...I got it about dime sized 3 months ago and now it has almost covered the entire frag disk!!! Large frag disk that is. Growing like a weed.

BTW...nice Husky pic....Here is mine:

Yes, I can guarantee he would...Mine LOVES it, but I never realized their potential until we had about 3 feet outside. He was more excited than I had ever seen him and you could tell he was built for that. Just flew right through it. It was amazing to watch.

Fantastic animals for people who understand them....

since you all are posting pictures of your gorgeous huskies I am just too tempted and have to show my girl off too ;) though she's only half husky...other half is timberwolf.

Btw...VERY nice macro shots. What camera body are you using? And excuse the likely stupid sounding question..but w/ your 100mm lens what distance are you having to stand back from the tank? I'm still a "newb" in the world of SLR and just got my 20D in March so I'm learning how to play with it. I just bought a 75-300mm USM from Canon and it does macro at 4.9ft (though I haven't had much of a chance to use it for macro's yet..and I'm just figuring that part of it out...i'm MUCH better at wildlife and scenics).

Very pretty dogs, love that pose on the rocks ... :)

Mine's big by Husky standards, almost 90 lbs., very tall too, here's a larger image
