first SPS pics with new toy

Denadai, Oldude - thanks much.

sfexplicit - check the second post right under the first set of pics for the (almost) FTS :)

Here are a couple more I snapped with a tripod last night (still too lazy to turn the flow off...baby steps):

And not the best pic, but its probably the best I'll get since there is four feet of water between the glass and these corals and my trigger doesn't like clear water, but here is my milli rock (pink, yellow, and blue):

Stunning color. Awe inspiration T5 tank.
Wow, ISO 3200, WB 10,000K. I wish my camera can dial that far. When you took these pictures, did you have all 12 T5 lamps on?

You said it! These photos + my electric bill, are making me re-think halides.

Just a beautiful tank. Keep up the good work. It certainly is paying off.

Great new toy you got there! I've gotta Nikon D90 and a Micro Nikkor f/2.8-ed 60mm lens, but I just can't seem to get my colors to pop like this!

You're dialing up your ISO (which is a new thing I'll try), what about shutter speed when your at say f/3.8? I'm getting okay results at 1/500 and f/4.0 and auto ISO, but.. that's about it, somethings just don't shoot that well.

Fantastic specimens sir!

The ISO is more for it being handheld -- lower ISO is usually better when possible.

Definitely do try upping your F stop though to increase your depth of field. Most macro shots are taken at at least F/8, and usually F/11 or higher. When you shoot, make sure you don't overexpose, as you lose colors this way. You can always increase exposure in photoshop, but decreasing exposure wont bring colors back.

Good choice on the new camera and lens. Have you tried taking video with the camera. Tank is looking great as usual, and the first pic is awesome.

Great shots Mcliffy! Your tank has really matured since the last FTS I viewed only six months ago. It's nice when a tank "hits its stride" and things start clicking. Your tank gives us all something to aspire to.
