Fish Only Tank

I am starting a fish only tank while i wait for income to purchase the reqiurements for a reef tank. What are some things that i NEED to purchase to start my fish only tank (55 gal. by the way).

hi there cotey, for starters is the 55 gallon reef ready with an overflow? if it is not then get a bak-pak protein skimmer that cpr makes. also you should get a hydrometer to measure the salinity of the salt once its in the tank,live rock, some substrate if you like, a few powerheads for water movement/circulation. please add your information as to what the 55 gallon has already, lighting,pumps,filters,etc...hope this helps.

Equipment-wise: Poweheads(1 or 2), Hang-on back Filter of somekind, Heater, Power Strip, Thermometer, Salt mix, Hydrometer, Test Kits. Thats a start.
