i am fairly new to the saltwater side to this hobby but have had fresh water tanks on and off most of my life. the marine side is everything i looked for with all the challenges. but i have diabetes and my new doc told me to use gloves when i do things inside my tank. he said it was possible i could get a infection from the bacteria and other things from my hobby. he told me since i have to break the skin so often in my fingers are forearm it leave a open place. so i did what he said and bought the gloves.. has anyone ever heard of this are is it possible.

just want to pick everyone's brain

thanks:eek:

Yes, its very posible.
The main pathogen we need to be aware of is Mycobacterium marinum, but you can also get vibrio and aeromonas infections from saltwater tanks.

Your Dr. sounds like a keeper to me.

Paul.

hey thanks i was very impressed with him. at least i know he knows what he is doing lol. he is the only one in all these years that told me that. thanks i will look those up

I agree with Paul. I have learned about these in school. They aren't too serious, not like MRSA and the scary things you hear on the news, but they will make you sick. Being diabetic you are more suseptible to infections. Wear the gloves.

Had I not owned a saltwater tank when we covered that stuff, I doubt that I would have remembered any those.
