florida beach sand

Anyone know if florida beach sand is silica or aragonite, or a mix of both?

I think most beach sand is silica. But don't quote me on that

wouldnt use it in a tank though, After all the hurricanes, no telling what kind of checmicals, and other products have soaked into the sand.

All that "hurricane soaked sand" is about 4 feet down in most places. The beach replenishment projects of the last couple years have covered it all up.

If you decide to use sand I would try to get it a little inland and in a prisine area like a park instead of right on the beach, but even then you should sift it.

I live in NW Florida and all of our sand is quartz. I wouldn't advise on doing it, but it is up to you. Don't get caught taking sand from a state park! You'll be in deep @*#$!!
