Flow for 30G cube

Ok... I had another thread that sort of died on this issue but I have more ideas now.

I have an overflow installed in my 30G cube that is my project now :)

It has a 1in bulkhead and a 1in bulkhead on the return

This is going to go through a 20G H sump that is built into my stand that I made and am still working on. A mag 5 is powering this with about or right over 4ft of head. I am running 1in from the pump to the return bulkhead with just 1 90 elbow and maybe one 45 if I have to shift the sump a little.

My question is how to disperse the flow coming out of the bulkhead? I plan on having maybe just 1 more powerhead in there for extra flow but I want the main part out of the return... the Mag 5 should come in at right under 300GPH in my setup.

What should I attach to the bulkhead to disperse the flow to more random status and not just one constant jet in the upper right corner? Penductor? What about a locline? I don't know what type of locline people were talking about so if anyone could give me an example...

Ideas, suggestions anyone?

It seems like you are trying to use the return as the main source of circulation in your tank and I don't think that's going to work too well.

300gph through a one inch line isn't going to give you much of a jet effect. I'd say loc line would be the best to direct it towards the middle then I would deffinently think about using at least one or two powerheads.

How about a 1/2 inch Sea Swirl? Mount it in the center of the tank and have it sweep 90 degrees from corner to corner. I have one on my 37, flowing about 300 GPH and it works GREAT! The 1/2 inch Sea Swirl can flow up to 500 gph. Plenty of random flow and and easy way to get the water back to the tank from the sump/mag5. Just clamp the Sea swirl on the tank and put the return hose on the barb fitting...........done!
By the way .........what kind of overflow do you have? I am researching a quiet overflow for my 37.

It isn't going to be the main flow... but probably half of it... The return is drilled in the top right corner and I was going to put probably a spare MJ 900 on the left hand side somewhere to create another direction... I just didn't want a full jet out the return line if I could help it.

I wanted something like a Tunze or a Seio but they just have too much flow even the smallest seio... probably will do a MJ900 with a hydroflow and was wanting a similar type of adapter for the 1" return bulkhead so I could disperse it some too instead of it basically being like a jacuzzi jet

sea swirl is out of the question because the return is drilled

But if half the flow from the return which would be about a 10x turnover is too much flow through the sump I am more than willing to switch to a smaller pump and then putting a bigger powerhead or 2 in the tank. I was trying to limit what was actually in the tank.

But 2 small MJ's would be ok I suppose. I could strategically place them near the overflow or something. I am open to any suggestions...
