So I have a outbreak of I think trematodes (sp) whatever those little kinda opague round critters that like spending time on the fins & eyes mostly of fish. I did a freshwater dip like the local pet store suggested & they also mentioned as a last resort Fluk Tabs can be added however it can whipe out my bio filter. So can the Fluke Tabs be mixe in with the food? Like a half tablet with some flake food in water?? I was hopeing this could be done which wouldn't have the negative affect on my filter because there isn't as much of the chemical in the h20. However I do not want to add to much of the chemical to hurt the fish......

I had to dip my Emperor, Blue Hep, Hawian Trigger & I couldn't catch my blue tang. My other inhabitants look OK so I didn't mess with them however I am defnantly watching :(

thanks for any info!!!!

I don't know about using Fluke Tabs... organophosphates aren't intended to be consumed. However, you might try "Ultra Cure PX", which is intended to be consumed and has ingredients that might be effective (it's really intended for intestinal parasites, but enought might be absorbed into the blood to work). You can order it from Drs. Foster & Smith if it's not available locally.

Assuming the parasites are reproducing off the fish (depends on the species of parasites) you will need to keep repeating the treatment for a full life cycle. I don't know how long it is safe to continue using oral treatments, particularly since the dosage is essentially impossible to control.

Even with oral medications it is possible you will get enough medication into the tank to affect some inverts. A safer approach for the inverts is to remove the fish to a treatment tank.

thanks for the help

It's a FO tank thus no worry about inverts :)

The guy at the local shop stated he feels these only live on the fish & do not grow off a host like ich & some other things fish can catch.

A friend has used furanace (sp) for years when his fish get a parasite & it's designed to be dosed into the h20 just like fluke tabs. However from what I hear fluke tabs are a LOT stronger....

crap.....

Yes, well there are many species of "flukes" with a wide variety of reproductive habits. Sometimes you get lucky and they can't reproduce in an aquarium at all. Sometimes they behave kind of like Ich. Sometimes they reproduce on the fish.

Furanace is an antibiotic. I would exect it to have no effect at all on parasites, other than preventing secondary infections. Perhaps you are thinking of something else?

correct.... I wasn't going to use furamace on them for this however my friend has used it for other diseases. I should of said that :)

Copper wouldn't work on these guys would it?

Copper might work... depends on the species. However, I'd probably just use the Fluke Tabs before I put copper in the tank.
