FMAS board?

I wish I could make more meetings, but the job and distance just doesn't allow for it. Has there been any thought to doing a video or audio blog of the meetings? I know there would be plenty of use don't South that would be int erested in getting to hear what the speakers have to say.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. It would be awesome if we could do a live stream or even archive the meetings on the fmas website or maybe even a youtube channel.

Maybe if you guys know how to do this easily and could share with Fmas or any member present how to do this, someone would help? I am not a techy but shouldn't it be as easy as someone with a cell phone on record? Teach us?

I like the idea of having them posted up on the website, and that should be easy enough to do! If I did post them up, would you guys watch them?

I posted this same statement on a thread for the meeting on how to make a tank. I live all the way in homestead. It would be much easier to watch.

Also I'm sure that there are some who get to go to the meetings that would like to go back and watch a certain meeting, as an example going back to watch Matt speak about acrylic now that they need the knowledge.

There are multiple issues to deal with something like this. Our BOD is already spread thin as it is.

To piggyback off MarkE, if someone has the know how and equipment...and time. Let me or Gayle know and we will explore it further.

To accomplish a live meeting wont be too difficult, but will require a subscription to a site like anymeeting dot com which allows you to host live meetings. Then a laptop and webcam pointing to the speaker or presentation. anymeeting dot com has a free version that allows up to 200 attendees and does video meeting. But you cannot record the session, cant do custom branding, in-meeting file sharing, or phone and live chat.

I like the idea of live meeting, but it might prove a bit too complex for some to get it right... Including myself. It's worth the try, though. However, a video upload of these meetings would be awesome, as all members could access at their own leisure, and benefit from them. We could have people send in their questions, comments or stories regarding the subject being presented during a particular meeting, and have the presenter chose a few questions... Just my two cents.

It doesn't have to be live. Something as simple as a camera on a tripod and a youtube upload should suffice. I live down south as well, and work until late almost every day. I'm a FMAS member and have never had the chance to attend a meeting.

A smart phone with video app and upload to youtube would probably be the easiest method. Would really be for the main portion of meeting and not the raffle and general discussion i would imagine.

If someone has the equipment and time as I mentioned before. We can certainly explore recording audio or video of the meeting.

The final product still needs to be edited and branded before being posted to the Fmas site. This is all assuming our speaker will allow us to do so.

And we will need the volunteer to assist (do) the work. :)

Yeah, it was just a idea. Hopefully someone it Broward will be available to volunteer so that us in Dade can get the benefits of the meetings. FMAS is so big and has members from such a large area that I understand that you guys can't please everyone. We know you try and thank you for your efforts.

I don't think it needs to be live. But it would be cool if someone has the equipment to record it (if the speaker gave permission). Unfortunatly I havn't been able to be at a meeting for awhile myself or I would be willing to bring my camera and tripod (as long as the BOD said the speaker was ok with it), the problem is I don't have an external mic so not sure how good audio would be (and audio is more important then the video).

I tried this a few months ago, and it was useless. It was an iphone 5 and both the audio, and video where horrendous and impossible to either hear or see.

I t was a good meeting too, Ian speaking of Tank Photography.

Yes, a microphone needs to be used.

What would be required would be a cammera with a wireless mike input and of course a wireless mic. The real trick is the editing after the fact. Adding an introduction, lower 1/3 (the word crawl you see on the news), PIP so you can see the PowerPoint and the speaker at points and credits, web links...

Overtime these would build up to become a great catalog and a great resource for the community.

The the question is where to host it. They can be put on youtube where anyone can see it to promote the group or on a website that requires a log in so it can be a perk of membership.

I am an instructional designer and do work with video to create a finished product for education, but I'm not a videographer or a video editor. But I could turn out a product that makes the club look good. If you guys want to explore this let me know. We can talk.

AS Marvin has mentioned.. the BOd would likely support this if we had the help, and the equipment, but most importantly the help to get this done. the BOd as he mentioned is already thin.

I will add something that i dont think has been mentioned here before. Many of the speakers will not like this, and refuse. Reason; some of these guys travel the country with these speeches. They will create one or two per year and travel distributing this knowledge that way. You place this open to public social media and thats taken away.... not only is this a thought, but someting ive heard from multiple national speakers.
