For those of you that make trips to the beach for critters...

i would like to go somewhere local, but whatever :-P - ok so i talked to this guy today at a marine store in altamonte springs- he said that using the nets like we did is illegal - so i was just wondering if anyone else has heard such a thing or knows the laws about this subject. limitations and such

I think you are OK, From the FWC page ...

Allowable Harvesting Gear:

Hand Collection.
"Hand held net," means a landing or dip net, except that a portion of the bag may be constructed of clear plastic material, rather than mesh.

"Barrier net," also known as a "fence net," means a seine used beneath the surface of the water by a diver to enclose and concentrate tropical fish and which may be made of either nylon or monofilament.

"Drop net," means a small, usually circular, net with weights attached along the outer edge and a single float in the center, used by a diver to enclose and concentrate tropical fish.

"Slurp gun" means a self-contained, handheld device that captures tropical fish by rapidly drawing seawater containing such fish into a closed chamber.

dont get a slurp gun - they are the worst way to harvest fish - if you do it too hard you will suck the eyes right out of there head- just use nets and unless you are going on a reef you wont get close enough to the fish to slurp it

I never said I wanted to use it for fish. I just like the idea of telling people "I have a slurp gun, wanna see it? lol

me aswell, that is the kind of pic where you really have to think about it first to get what it really is....nice, i like those kind of pics

I'm going to call brevard county tomorow and see if i can get someone there to explain the rules. BTW were going to freeze this weekend..lol

Boca Raton Inlet Park has a great place to snorkel, but I went in August.

Some of the best diversity i've ever seen in Floridian waters.

Really nice anemones and Coral, too.
