Found a few bad crabs...couldn't catch them though

No idea where I got "the big shot", I've had it for quite a while.

But...in the crafts section at Walmart, they sell a glass bud vase that's identical for $1. We bought a couple of these when we declared war on crabs, and set traps all over the tank. We probably trapped close to 10 crabs in total.

LOL well so far it's crabs-1 me-0

I don't want to start a mini cycle by having a decaying shrimp in the tank. How long did you keep each peice in before changing them out?

I have a few shrimp in the freezer with a few drops of garlic so hopefully that will entise them more.

Thanks again everyone

Mines came out instantly, they new it was feeding time and before they knew it... netted. I will tell you I only tried once per day and it was crabs 3, me 2. It took me 3 trie b4 I caught the first one, then the next one the next day!

If you want to try a double let me know. I've got one covered in coraline.

Wow Keith, what dedication to the hobby! Talk about combining hobbies. It must smell like crap though. Good thing the liquor smell covers it up :)

I'm wondering how to keep your fish from eating whatever food is in the shot glass? I've got a pair of dottybacks and a sixline that could easily slip into and out of that shot glass. Maybe they'd be worried about going in one way and not being able to turn to get out? I dunno. Maybe someone has a better explanation.

great thread and great idea though!

In my tank I put the glass in at night while the fish are sleeping and the crabs are out.

Exactly. Six-lines and dottybacks are both sleepy-heads. Set the trap at night.
