frag tank setup

So I'll be setting up a frag tank soon.
It's going to be small. 33x17x10. its a little over 20 gallons i believe, but anyone who's seen my room understands why!

my question is...
Is my best bet to do the eggcrate like 1 or 2 inches off the bottom?

I was looking ath some rocks that had the holes drilled into them online a while ago. though that was an awesome idea. because you could just let the coral grow on the rock and then keep replacing the plugs when it grows onto the plug. this wouldn't work for sps though.

would it be cool to have half the tank eggcrate and half rock so that I could drill the holes and have zoos grow crazy on them and have the plugs in the holes and then on the eggcrate half keep all the plugs that have been grown onto and ripped out of the holes?

also I'm going to have a little mag 3 moving water up to the tank. and then a mag 7 on a closed loop moving water in the tank. before I only had a return pump on my old fragtank and when I went out of town the pump failed and the tank had no movement and everything died. that is why I'm doing the closed loop.

also are there any fish that would be good to keep in the fragtank such as wrasses that eat certain pests or anything like that?

thanks in advance.

sounds like a great idea.
fish-yellow coris/radiant/leopard.IMHO should b in every reef and frag tank.

i just use rocks in my frag tank because i have dirty egg crate and i prefer to have the zoas grow onto the rocks. I did not have sand but have recently added because I was tired of looking at detritus on the bottom of the tank.

I have 3 fish, black bird wrasse, sixline wrasse and the blenny. the bird wrasse gets big and eventually will out grow the tank, but right now he is 2 1/2". when i add new colonies to the tank before i can even place it they are picking at anything on the colony. they are great for cleaning up wild colonies. Now that I have added sand I want to add like 4 yellow coris.

Hey Gas, nice fish list. But what if the Frag tank is BB?
NP just add a couple of pvc pipes or rocks. Contrary to popular belief this fish can survive and thrive w/o sand. they just need hiding places.

were can you buy those tanks im looking to set up something like that i just got 2 400 watt halide hi bays that im going to use. thanks.

my new plan i'm thinking about is a gyre flow tank. tank will be 38 x 20 x 12. it will have a partition in the middle in the long direction with about 8" of clearance on both sides. 2 maxi mods on the back wall of the long side. one pointing left...one pointing right. then have 1 on for 5 or 10 min which will create a clockwise flow. then the other which will cause a counterclockwise flow. this should give me pretty good flow and I think will be better than having a closed loop with a sqwd. I was also considering the vortech pump, but don't really feel that the $420 will be worth it.

anybody think this would be a better idea than a closed loop on the frag tank?

A couple of Tunze nano streams would probably work well. I went with the Tunze because they are a lot smaller than the Koralias (and look better too).

My frag tank is 30 x 18 x 13 with two of these. Yours wouldn't be all that much bigger. I have PLENTY of flow with these.

And thanks to Rogger, I have a lot of new frags in it :)
