can you just cut it and glue it to something?

you will be hard pressed to get it to stick to glue due to the mucus it puts out.

I recently got 4 pieces of pulsing xenia from a friend and I tried a new method for me that seemed to work incredibly well.
I took a good long piece of fishing line, and a sewing needle and I threaded the line through the base of the xenia and then tied it to a rock...it attached to the rock in only a couple days and has been doing great since.

Put whatever you want it to be attatched to- small rock or coral next to it, or pin it down with a rock. It will attach and then cut it from colony. When xenia is reproducing fast, it can attach in a day or two sometimes. Anytime you cut it and then try to physically manipulate it- losses are higher.
