I recently discovered an unidentified mantis in my old 30g tank, about 1-11/2", and dark green. The mantis has been in my tank for about 6 months without incident, living in a 2-3 lb piece of live rock. Now that my fish have moved to the 72g, it seems emboldened -- I guess this is why I finally discovered it. It has actually built a nest with pieces of aragonite from the substrate, stuffing them into holes in the rock to block unwanted entrances, I presume.
I am breaking down the 30g because I now have a 72g, but I don't want this mantis shrimp. However, I don't want to kill it, especially seeing so many aquarists in this forum who like them. If anyone is interested in providing a happy home, I will send you the rock and the shrimp together if you pay for shipping.
