Is there anyone in the Fresno CA area that has a mantis shrimp that they are trying to get rid of or that they would be willing to sell?? I'm trying to find one and I'll pay shipping if we cant exchange it in person.:)

I'm assuming you're talking about Aquatic Pets (nice but highly overpriced) and Whities? I moved from Fresno to Southern Ca. about two years ago. You might want to talk to Richard @ Kaz's Tropical...he is a friend of mine. I have access to a few mantis down here (haven't checked the prices but I could call him or e-mail you with them) and could probably arrange getting one sent up there when he makes his next betta run down here. Give him a call (559)237-3474...I'll try and remember to call him and let him know. What outlying city do you live in? Another option: (If you're not in a hurry) I might run up there within the next weekend or so to visit my parents...talk to me, if the cost isn't too high I might be willing to pick it up out of my pocket and bring it to you.

I understand where you're coming from...the selection and prices suck in Fresno...living in So. Cal the selection and low prices are great.

!!!!Great deal!!!!
Thanx alot Ryan, Um...I'm not really in a hurry To get the Mantis so if you wanna bring one that would be great! If not I can give this guy a call and see whats up. Its your call. I live in Selma and recently Marine and Reef Aquariums have been popping up here and there. We now have a new Pet Store but they deal mostly in reptiles. So basicly everyone here in selma must rely on Aquatic Pets for our Livestock. They're cool guys but yes, they are overpriced!! So anyways, Post back and tell me whats up! Once again, Thanx alot!!!:D

I found two down here, both spearers I believe. One is approx. 3.5", green in color, the other is over 6" (huge), black and yellowish striped. I'm new to mantis shrimp so this is the best description I can give you. I'll e-mail you with more info

The green one is probably Pseudosquilla ciliata. They are good tank animals that spend a lot of time digging, looking out at the world, etc. The bigger one is a Lysiosquillid. They are burrowers that never come out onto the surface. With a good pvc burrow, they will entertain you at feeding time, but that is about it. I've had some trouble with deformed raptorial appendages when they molt - which is every three months or so.
