Fromia question

The other day I purchased a very healthy blue linkia star and red fromia star. The linkia is really active, but the fromia doesn't move much at all. It just hangs out beside one of my acro colonies. Is it normal for the red fromia stars to just stay in one place like that? Its still very healthy, no signs of stress or deterioration.. My water parameters are consistent:

Ca : 430ppm
Alk: 9
pH: 8.38
Mg: 1675

Salinity: 1.025

0 Nitrate/Phosphate

The fromia slowly moved into a hole, so I can't keep an eye on it.... :( The blue linkia is still doing great, moving about the reef. Both starfish were exposed to air for a few seconds before being placed into the tank, would this affect anything?

Stars usually need to be acclimated over a long period. Most stars I ever had stayed in the same spots. They would travel mostly at night. Haven't kept any since.

Reef stars can be frustrating. The 'reef safe' genera of stars, namely linckia and fromia, have horrible attrition rates in captivity. Purchasing a star from a large batch usually indicates that you're getting one from a new shipment, and that means that he had at least one long ride and acclimation before you took him home and re-acclimated him. If you're after a star, ask your LFS to hold one for you for a couple days. This should help a little to keep you from getting a fragile star that won't last.

Can anyone advise whether young starfish have the same coloration as mature specimens? I ask this as I have discovered one in my tank about .5 of an inch tip to tip and it is white!

My red fromia finally climbed out of the cave, and is crawling about the reef. Everything looks fine, no signs of deterioration, stress, discoloration, or damage. Man I love that bright red! :smokin:
