Please forgive me if this has been done to death, but is there any reason that a refugium shouldnt be lit 24/7? Can this cause any harm? I have read that lighting 24/7 prevents the algae from going sexual, what exactly does this mean, and why is it a bad thing?
My fuge is a 2/3 full 18 gallon tub, fed by my entire overflow, which drains back through a bulkhead into another tub the same, which houses heaters, skimmer and return pump. The fuge is lit by a 130w E40 base compact flouro housed in a gullwing reflector. At the moment I have only halimeda which is growing nicely, but I plan to add something like caulerpa racemosa in the near future.
This is my first fuge, so any hints or tips would also be appreaciated,
