They will come off when they mature. If you take them off too early, it can kill them.

I don't know if they will keep growing new ones, but I saw one that did.

Fuss how big do they get before they drop? Have you ever took one off your self?
Why buy 8 ....... Well other then being a good deal they look cool as hell. And to trade for plates i dont have does that answer your ?

Charlie, they seem to push each other off when they get big enough. In my case it's usually when the skeleton is between dime and quarter sized.

Nice, I have one growing off the side of a Lobophyllia, the skeleton is about the size of a dime and the flesh is about the size of a silver dollar. It's been growing slowly for a couple of months and has yet to fall off.

Yours is much more colorful then mine. Mine has a purple mouth with a dark brown/tan flesh. I have thought about cutting it off, but I don't want to risk damaging the stem it is growing from incase it keeps kicking out more fungia.

I just picked up a colony of anthocaulli of a very similar fungiid. Extrapolating from the wedge of skeleton these are growing off of, the adult must have been dinner plate sized!
Anyone have a species id for these corals?
Thx-Jim

i have the same piece and it does regenerate new plates when i take one off. they can be taken off but be careful not to break the plate when removing.

as reccomended it is best to wait for them to fall off, but they do fight for space and appear to thrive when they have some space to breathe

I wish I had your guys green ones. Mine is a drab brown, with white stripes and purple septum. It is about the size of a silver dollar and I think is beginning to seperate.

This is the first one to sprout off of the side of this Lobo, but but just recently at the base of the large one I have approx 7 babies sprouting at the base....

You guys got lucky with the greens!
