GFO question

So, how long should I run the GFO before it needs to be replaced?

That depends on how much phosphates you have in your tank and how long it takes for the gfo your running to soak up the phosphate. So run some gfo, usually about a cup or so for your 120gal, and see how long before your phosphate starts to increase, then it's time to change again. Most people change once a month or sometimes less.

problem is freaking red slime algae..

You know, im starting to think its these freakin reef crystals salt I'm using....

You might try testing your make up salt water and see if you detect any phosphates.

ha and that would dictate yet ANOTHER test kit haha.. but its the only way ill really know

i have heard some pretty bad things about instant ocean crystals as of late though.. so it just got me thinking.

Well as of today these are what I deem essential to testing...

Alkalinity
Calcium
Magnesium
Phosphate
Nitrates

So, that's 5 test kits.

I have and use those just don't have a phosphate yet. Been reeding 6 years and haven't bought one haha
