Giant canister filter to use as fuge

and a place to put a heater.

I have a bunch of food grade 55 gallon plastic barrels with screw-on lids and gaskets and I was wondering if anyone here has plans for converting one into a huge canister filter-like thing. I don't know what the flow patterns are in the larger canister filters as the Red Sea Ocean Clear filters.

Have the drums ever been used? I only ask because where I live there is a large pickle factory. They have hundreds of used 55 gal drums they just give away, but they contained 'pickled products' I heard that they should never be used in reef apps.

I took some to see for myself and after 2 years they still reek of garlic. I've tried washing with muriatic acid, baking soda and it doesn't seem to phaze it.

If the drums are new, I would use them as RO, RO/DI reserviors or mixing stations for housing water for water changes.
