Hi All,

I know Glass Cages has a history of questionable reviews over the years. I am curious however whether they have since improved and has their reputation gotten any better..?

Specifically has anyone purchased a GC Tank in the last year and how satisfied are you now..?

Thanks

Matt

When I was looking to buy a bigger tank a few months ago, I found a used 6 month old GC 190g tall I was real interested in buying. But after reading, all the reviews on the different forums it seemed there were more bad then good. It made me a little nervous so I passed on it.

I know Cham on here has a 120g rimless fromt GC and it an awesome tank.

From what I have read, there rimless aquariums seem to be better made for some reason than a rimmed tank.

For the $ it sounds like Reef Saavy is the way to go for custom work. GC simply isn't worth the risk from what I've read.

Look at it like this.... the "Glass Box" is the single most important element of your build... why would you even consider trusting that to someone with such a horrible track record as gc ( I wont even give them the pleasure of an internet hit using their whole name)? I understand wanting to save some $$ but they are the cheapest around for a reason. Their tanks (for the most part) suck. Their customer service sucks. Their quality control is non-existent.

When they get a decent tank out the door it's purely by mistake and not par for the course.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. I've owned a gc tank and I wouldn't contract them to build a house to hold dog poo let alone something that is supposed to hold all the water from my system inside my house. I'd rather do without a tank than have them build any portion of it.

As I said I'm speaking from First Hand experience not just something I read on the internet by a friend's uncle's daughter's cousin's friend. Buyer Beware is the motto for the day when you even hint at the word gc.

Well if you were willing to spend the kind of money you will with Reef Saavy, there wouldnt even be a conversation about it GC. Reef Saavy is the best around Florida. Take a trip to Rick and Terry house and see there 300 gal tank, you will be sold.

Matt, when I just start at this hobby, you told me is nothing more important than the glass box
And 22 negative reviews on GC, speak by themselves, there is also other brands besides Reef Savvy that you may consider, with more value for your money than the brand mentioned before, that it happen to be a very good one.

I know I certainly got some attention on this one... I've always been a big believer in making sure the "box" is given top priority during a build. There are many options and choices out there from many different vendors and builders. When buying a stock tank, there are great options in standard sizes. However, when trying to build a custom design the choices become far more limited.

That's why I pick the brains of those around me who have had the experiences that I may have not, i.e. GC. Even after 22+ years in the hobby I have not really been exposed to them or their products. So... it's the experiences of you guys that help make decisions easier... sorta.

I'm still working through other options based on price, etc.

Thanks for all the comments.

I second Reef Savy, Felix went beyond what any other company out there does and will meet you half way (here to Miami) to save on delivery charges. The company he uses to cut the glass since mine was more of a custom size made a mistake and Felix thru in black silicone and overflow and also threw in the better glass ( at no charge) which now is called Low Iron for the week delay it caused while the glass was recut. A very classy and professional act on his part.

Does he really charge extra for black silicone?

Thanks for the compliments guys

I am happy with my tank but when I did my build Reef Savvy wasn't around. I can't remember the exact amounts but every other builder wanted many many times more than GC wanted.

If I were to build one now I'd look at a miracles or RS tank

I've bought two used GC tanks. Both are good quality. One was built last year (120G Starphire 3 sides) and the other was built a few years ago (160g shallow frag tank - 8'x3'x1').

I'd not hesitate to buy from them again, but I've not dealt with them first hand.

Top shelf aquatics sells a tank thatg is made localy. I don't know who it is that make it but is a sweets looking tank. It is the same one as thier rimless when you walk in the door on the right.
