Glass Canopy

Hi Guys,

Another quick question…

I just recently upgraded to two 175 watt metal halide lights. In the past I have always used a glass canopy on top of my tank.

Now I feel more comfortable with the glass in between the water and the light fixtures… will this adversely affect anything in anyway?

For example is ther any chance the glass change the wave length of the light to such an extent that it might enable more algae growth?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The glass will reduce PAR a bit (especially if dirty) and slightly alter transmitted wavelength of the light, but it's doubtful to have much impact on algae growth. It's probably worth piece of mind if you have jumpers in the tank. I've been running my halide over the water about 16" for over 6 years and haven't had a problem though.
