Are you sure, Rob? If any glass will filter UV, then I would think that the glass case for the DE bulb would filter the UV also, thus eliminating the need for a glass shield.
I thought there was always problems with UV getting through window glass and fading your carpet, upholstery, etc.
Same with leaving stuff under the back window of your car.
That glass is pretty thick.
