Glueing clams

Lately I have been having a problem with one of my fish (I'm thinking it might be my blue tang) dragging around a baby maxima around the tank. Usually it is in a spot I can reach. Tonight I practiaclly had to tear apart my tank to get it - the clam was so buried under rocks. I decided to glue it to a branch rock slice (heavy enough to not be picked up). Never having done this before & always letting clams attach by themselves, I'm wondering if this will be okay? The clam is open now & seems okay.

How did you glue it?

To the side of the shell, or under the shell?

If under, I hope you were careful not to get glue on the byssal attachment area.
