Going snorkeling down south tomorrow.

I am going to go snorkeling down south tomorrow. I am mostly just going with my girlfriend and showing her the ropes of snorkeling. Shes never been. But I am going to try and collect some stuff too. Maybe some snails, hermits, and hopefully another doctor fish tang (those things are HARD to catch!). I'll ppst my experiences when I get back. Also might try out a new spot that I heard of.

Went to peanut island near the west palm beach inlet. Didnt catch any fish that I wanted to keep. Those darn tangs are fast! I did get about 50 blue legged hermits though. PEanut island is awesome! I was distracted from my fish collecting by some naked girls riding a jetski. Yes I said NAKED! The east side of the island has three artificial reefs for snorkeling and the north side is for the boaters to park and party. What a great place. I am going back very soon.

Heres a link about peanut island

Well here are the only pictures I took. When the girls went by on the jetski I was in the water and didnt have my camera with me. They fell off the jetski about 20 feet away from me. I wish I had a water proof digital camera! These pics are pretty nice though. Notice the crystal clear water. And you can see that all the boats stay in one area and hang out away from the snorkeling area.

stayed at the hilton on singer island about 2 minutes away directly on the beach. There is also a reef right behind the hotel on the beach but the surf was rough when i was there. It was $139 a night. Really nice. And yes there are submerged rocks that you can snorkel around. The rocks in the picture are at low tide. Usually the rocks are alomost submerged all the way. I also heard from my friend that used to live down there that you can snorkel in the inlet by the sides of it and see really big fish. Havent tried that yet. I saw lots of large barracudas, sheep head, large tangs, large parrot fish, and many other kinds of fish. You just take a water taxi for $7 round trip and they run all day long till 5:30 pm. Next time I go I think I am going to rent a boat down there. This place is one of my favorite spots in Florida and I have been to every inch of this state. I am probably going back this weekend and staying saturday night.

holy cow, you go all the time. i want to go but im saving for a trip to the bahamas next month. when i get back though i want to make a road trip down there.

You can snorkel on the inside of the inlet but it is very dangerous. Sharks usually stay in the inlet water and the currents in there are always changing. I would just stay on the island.

My roomate grew up down there and he said he used to snorkel the sides of the inlet all the time. He used to spear fish there. I am not too worried about sharks and stuff as long as I am close the the sides so I can get out quick. Of course it has to be a calm day for this. I forgot to add that you can camp out on the Island for $15 a camp site. They have showers and bathhromms on the camp grounds. I am planning on camping out there this weekend and I think I have my friend convinced in going and he is bringing his 18 foot seadoo jet boat. Should be a great time. And yes I do lots of fun things on the weekends. Thats what being single with no kids does for you. Just about every weekend I am in a new place partying and in the water. You only live once!

hehe, I almost got carjacked heading out to singer island years ago. Its been years since I went diving, but now that fishtanks are involved it would make it a completely different experience. I honestly love diving in 10-15 ft water because you can stay down FOREVER and just troll around the bottom looking at stuff instead of either a) doing deep water (down time, up time, offgas time, short bottom time) or b)snorkling, where you have to go UP, down, UP, down, UP, down.

carjacked? I guess blue heron blvd can be a little rough. But the island is very safe. I agree with the diving 15ft of water. Its great to stay down a long time. I do not have any one to dive with so I just snorkel. I actually do most of my fish and critter collecting in about 2-3 feet of water.

yep you guessed it! Once you get to singer you are fine.....once saw a cops episode from down there.....it all seemed so familier
