Gone BB. Pics.

The 1st pic was taken about 2 months ago. It looks nice but it was a bugger to clean. So, out has come the sand and vast amounts of detritus. I have removed ~10lbs of LR to give my tank more "breathing space" lol. I have also added an extra powerhead to the back of the tank.

1st pic (many prefer the look of this one):

Commens welcome! :)

nice reef. Your sun coral seems to be doing quite well, what do you feed? I still like the look of a little bit of crushed coral/sand better, but there are tradeoffs I suppose. I bet that was a bit of work to get out of there too! :D regardless, nice tank.

hehe, from taking out the sand/scaping/cleaning took 6 hours.

I feed my suncorals a mix of cyclop-eeze, mysid and brine. Usually tartget feed them every other day.

IMO, the older setup looks nicer. You might have problems with nitrates now that you've removed the sand. Keep an eye on it.

Well, I have noticed an increase in Nitrates, not good, but my livestock havent shown any signs of stress due to this...yet.

My trates were around 20 with the sandbed, now they are 25.

How can I reduce these, I have no fuge, is there anything like a hang on the back fuge or something I can buy? How much light does the lowest light hungry macro need?

Cheers

Your tank looked much brighter with sand and more natural. Other then that, your tank looked much brighter with sand and more natural.

Do more water changes and add more flow. The reason for your nitrates jumping up is you are not exporting detritius quick enough.

Have you tested your PO4 levels? I wouldn't get a HOB fuge, I'd just stick with water changes and adding more flow. Export the bacterial flock from the water column and you'll see your nitrates and phosphates go down to nothing.
