Good PH... why?

Sometimes lfs info is very good; sometimes it's misguided. It's hard to replace the experience some who have worked in them for a long time can gain. Thousands and thousands of animals and situations. Unfortunately , folks often misinterpret what they see or ehco what someone told them inaccurately so by the time you get the information it's not helpful.

Ok... tested today...

Ph 8.0, kh 7, cal (off the chart high),nitrates 5ppm, ammonia & nitrites 0, phos (still a little high) .25 ( wanna get a hanna checker), salinity 1.022 ( will raise to 1.025). No corals yet... but will add some soon. Should I raise my kh? If so how high 8-12? It should raise my ph also right? Should I use a 2 part and only use alk for now? Any help appreciated. Tank 5 months old. Only rock and fish... and rock was not live... it's getting there.

Bring the SG up first, that in itself will raise the alk a little. From there I would adjust it to somewhere between 8-10. (baking soda works just fine and is a whole lot cheaper than anything at the fish store)

Makes sense... thanks! How much should I start with? My tank is 125g... a teaspoon? Tablespoon?

I am concerned about lowering my PH by using baking soda... do ya'll think that will be an issue???

The difference will be very small, less than 0.1 units. I wouldn't worry.
