Can anyone think of a book that is good for a begginer? So far I think taking macros and nature shots is what I would like.

De nada. Probably while I was typing that 7 other people were recommending the same books somewhere else on the internet :p

I saw his newest one John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide in books a million last night and almost got it but the only thing that made me wait was....... is the book on digital cameras or 35mm. It said what camera he used but I didn't recognize the model. Plus I didn't know if the information on nature photography from a 35mm was similar to digital.

I did order
Digital Nature Photography Closeup (Paperback)
by Jon Cox
Digital Nature Photography

from amazon

Since those said Digital I felt better LOL still might will get that john shaw today so I can read something while I wait.

EDIT: BTW Gregr your pics on your website are just amazing !!!

Thanks!
I should've clarified- his books are based on film cameras, but the basics of taking pictures is the same regardless of the medium. I'm not familiar with the title you got- hopefully it'll teach what you need to learn.
The reason I and so many others recommend John Shaw's books (and any of them will do [except the one on the business of photography] since he covers the basics in each one) is that his writing is so easy to understand- that and the pictures he uses as examples are so stunning. His work is just about as close to perfection as it gets :p
After the picture has been taken- that is where you will find yourself looking elsewhere for help so perhaps you will be better off with the book you got. Let us know how you like it-

I will let you know :)

I will get shaws book to but I wasn't sure if the camera type mattered so I waited.

It matters in that there's no digital-relevant info but he'll teach the abc's of photography right quick :D

Well I just got the books today and only thumbed through them for a few minutes and I saw in the macro book he has a small section on aquarium macri photograhy. Like 4 pages

I'll post more when I get some time to really read over them some.

Shaw's books are great. I read his books after I have already learnt the basics, and still found it to be informative and well presented.

There are a few books that are aimed at the advances level but these books can be very dry since it's all physics, chemistry and color theory. Great read nevertheless.

So far I am please with the new books. I think he covers everything on digital cameras and gives different pics of the same scene to give you an idea what a different setting would do. He even has a small section on taking pictures in aquariums which I like.

Now if only I had a camera to practice with maybe it would be easier :)

I don't think you can go wrong with these books but since I am not a pro I don't know if the information is real good or not though but I do like it and don't find it overwhelming.

If you have a nature calendar you just might find this guys pics in it. I just happend to look at my calendar and notice this guys name under the pic for april.
