gorilla crab molt?

This week I found what looks like a dead gorilla crab in my tank (about 1" in size). It looked like a complete crab but without any stalky eyes. My question is what do crab molts look like? Because it appeared like a complete crab does that rule out a molt and mean this is a dead crab? It was fairly lightweight and fell apart dairly easily but was not transparent like shrimp molts.

most crabs molt I think - it certainly COULD be a molt

Crab molts look identical to the crab it came from, colors and all. The surefire way to tell the difference between a dead crab or it's molt is to retrieve and sniff. If it smells up your ENTIRE house, it's a dead crab. If it just stinks a bit, it's a molt. When my sally lightfoot molts, she leaves clear, hard eye pockets on the stalks. It's neat and reminds me of something out of a bad science fiction movie.
