WOW! Nice tank Graham. Yeah, coming from me like I could comment. I wish I'd seen that before having you over to see my humble little glass cube. I would've come up with something like, "Can't find my house keys", "Wife's sick" or something.

So, honestly, how many years do you think it will take mine?

Great job dude.

Jay,

Thank you for the kind words!

You say: "So, honestly, how many years do you think it will take mine?"

I say that you are well on your way, my friend! :) I started at least 3/4 of my tank from frags, so keep your calcium and alkalinity up, give em plenty of particulate food and you will be amazed. I have a growth sequence of the pink A. millepora that just amazes me. I find it no testament to my ability really, just the fact that if you provide your animals the essentials, they will impress YOU! The mille I speak of (in the upper left of the tank) started from a 2" frag from Therman almost exactly 2 years ago. It's been fragged more than a few times and even "adopted" a commensal crab! Although it's a very common coral, it's got to be my favorite in the tank. It took about 9 months to put up a dozen branches, but after that, the growth is almost exponential!
Getting them to put up a few branches is, IMO, the longest wait. Once they do, they usually take off. Some are stubbon, though...just have to wait and see.

Thanks again Jay!

Graham,

What type of coral in that right in the middle of the tank, the one with the stalks, about a little more then halfway up the water column?? I like the look of it, it looks like a gorgonian, but I am interested in what kind. How much did it cost? How easy is it to maintain, and do you have to target feed it, or is it a photosynthetic coral??? Thanks!!

Joe

PS: Beautiful Tank, I am jealous.

Graham,

You mentioned you had macro lenses for your DSC-S75. Which ones do you have?..I have the same camera and need something for better close-ups.

Thanks

joezkool,

It's a Eunicea sp. gorgonian, photosynthetic but loves particulate food. Mostly everyone I know who has kept it has found it very easy to keep. I got it from a local club member about a year ago in a swap. Actually never seen one in stores, so I don't know what they would sell for. I would think they'd be fairly inexpensive.

sjediets,

It's the +7, +10 Tiffen set. I just did a search on Google for "Sony Cybershot DSC-S75 macro lense" or something and found a few retailers. I think they ran me about $40. The only issue is that with that magnification, you need to have your object super close to be able to focus on it - within about 4" with the +7 and closer with the +10. They can be combined for a +17, but your subject would need to be pretty much right at the front glass to be in focus. I may try a lower magnification set if I can find one...

scrapoli,

Thank you! Yes, I go broke quite often... :D
