Great Deal on the Blue Planet DVDs

It's an amazing series. I'm going to hold out and see if Santa brings me an HD DVD or Blu-Ray.

For those who are planning to buy this DVD or any other DVD on this site. Use this code "SUPERSALE" (without the hyphens) at the checkout. It's a 20% off discount.

So instead of paying almost $40.00 for Blue Planet you now pay only $32.00

BTW Best Buy and WalMart had an AWESOME!! deal on the Toshiba HD-DVD Player it was only $100.00 :D

I will recheck later if they still have this deal.

Meh @ HD-DVD. The new PS3s are only $399 and are full blu-ray players as well as gaming console, internet terminals, entertainment/media center, you can watch stuff from a computer, use it for youtube, etc. A million different things. The only good thing about HD-DVD is that they're desperate to get you onto their format so they usually offer those "buy the player and get 10 HD-DVD movies free" promos.

I got Planet Earth on Blu-Ray the other week @ walmart because it was cheaper there than it was on amazon which blew my mind to the point of where I was willing to spend money at walmart. But yea, it's an epic series on blu-ray 1080i/p 5.1 uncompressed sound etc...

i have HD-DVD and the movie selection is pathetic. I wish i went with Blu-Ray.

maybee a PS3 should go on my christmass wishlist.

also, the planet earth series in HD was AWSOME!

I bought the series when it first came out and the amount and quality of information contained in these series is top notch.

Quality videos like these are worth the money and do not justify copying them.

true frankie.

I'm really sad that they didn't record Blue Planet in HD. Oh well. They could always do an upscale from the original prints, but it wasn't recorded with HD in mind. Still a good series as well.

It's funny Kogo because I've had moments where I see a movie and go "damnit I wish I went with HD-DVD" Usually it's only when I see a movie that is HDDVD on one side and DVD on the other, because then my girlfriend will buy it because it can be justified :) She won't buy me a blu-ray if she can't watch it on her computer/tv at home.

Really there was only one thing that swayed me to buying a PS3 instead of a 360. It was ONLY that the 360 didn't come out with an HD-DVD drive built in, and they STILL are not planning on doing it. The games were better, there was better community support, I didn't mind paying for XBL because it's so much better than the relative nothingness that the PS3 has. But that was it. Future HD compatability. I didn't even care that they were only in component when they came out, it still looked great at 1080i. I still don't have an HDMI TV, just DVI, so i use a converter for the PS3 from HDMI to DVI.

Anyway, sorry for the off topic rant. Back to the OP.

PS3 does upconverting :)

$100-$500 for upconverting DVD player OR
$399 for PS3 that upconverts and has Blu-Ray player :)

man you guys are reading my mind, i am at work and thinking but does the PS3 upconvert regular DVD into a higher resolution, and you already answered it. thanks, If i get a chance tonight i my buying the PS3 and i am NOT a gamer. It looks like a win-win for me and my kids. Thanks,

i just did a google and i found many hits saying it does NOT upconvert maybe a future firm ware update may change it. ReefWreak, are you sure?

at the time when i bought my X-Box 360 plus the HD DVD add on, it was the same price as the PS3.... not so now.

... also, another vote for not burning copyrighted material for distrobution.... it's illegal and makes the club look bad....

oh, if you can, buy the older 60gb or 20gb PS3s. The 60 is best and worth it. It's got the full PS2 chip in it, the 20gb does software emulation for PS2 games, and the new 30gb doesn't do PS2 at all. Really sad. It was worth it for me to get the 60gb because even though I have a few PS2 games, I play them a lot. But if you do not have PS2 games already, then forget it, go for it.

I'm positive it upconverts, there is no software upgrade, it's built in with the newer firmware I suppose. All DVDs that I watch have been upconverted since.... since the beginning of this school year (maybe August/September). I don't care, because upconverting doesn't technically do much, but it comes out in 1080i, so yea. PS2 games get upconverted as well I believe. Maybe just some of them ::shrug:: gran turismo 4 had built in 1080i so it doesn't matter. The new GranTurismo is going to be INSANE if you're into racing games. I can't wait!

Upconverting on smaller screens is ok, but anything larget than a 50" is iffy. No comparison to full 1080p. I watch this over and over on my 60.

Cause its just as much for a PS3, which does blu-ray and games and music and internet surfing and the list goes on and on. I can handle one format.
