Growth of grafted orange and green monti cap

I am going to use this thread to document the growth and colors of my grafted monti cap. Very curious to see how the color develops. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hijack your thread Ocean.. but I had a question for you guys, I have 3 frags of montis and was wondering the placement. I have 2 radions that are set to peak at 65% intensity. I also have two mp10s for flow.

My question is where should I place these caps? Can I place them all next to each other or should I place them in different parts of my tank? Also, I know a lot of people place them lower in the tank to prevent shadowing. Should they be in front of the MP10 flow or will they be fine on the bottom side, below one of the MP10s?

Thanks guys and sorry for hijacking again.

Not a hijack at all. That's the type of stuff I was looking for too as far as suggestions for growth pattern and such. Curious to see.

Mine have been doing well up high with high flow. I have one on the back glass and I just moved my purple cap towards the front of my tank so it won't collide with any sps frags that I had in front of it. I did this because I checked out a lot of aquascape pics and most had montis towards the front.

for some reasons i can grow the heck outta acros and other SPS... but monti caps I can never get to grow well! Le sigh

yeah ive had a monti red cap frag for about 7months with high current and now is when its starting to shelf off, its encrusted alot in the amount of time ive had it. lights are 150w halides 20k 1 foot from lights

Can you describe the grafting process please? It appears that both organisms were placed upon the same platform but how did you manage a graft outside of laboratory conditions? Would it be correct to state that you fused both organisms together via an adhesive?

Is that piece technically "grafted" , it looks from the picture that two different color individual pieces were placed on the same disc and are growing together which wouldn't be grafting... I have a lot of caps that do this for me but they aren't really "grafting"

Maybe I just cant see the pictures clearly. My apologies if im wromg

My piece is from the WWC grafted colony. I am not sure of entirely how they did it but the two species were grafted and show each others colors when they grow.

If you put them together they will fuze to each other. The most amazing that I've seen was at josh(pork&beans). Maybe he can add a picture of his.

The trick with caps is to keep them in high flow and moderate light. Too high, and the cap will not plate or scroll. The moderate light spurs the colony to spread in effort to gain more light.

Will be interesting to see if they will fuse, or overcap eachother.

I dont see the process in Ocean Mangs frag either, and i dont know the difference between grafting and fusing, but i have seen the WWC grafted monti cap in person and the green and red are actually growing as one. Its easy to finf on google.

I think this all started with two different pieces of monti caps glued next to each other, an after some time it evolved in to one.

I did this in 2008 and the colony grew beautifully. It even survived two tank moves. Unfortunately, in early 2012 my sister-in-laws tank (the last tank it ended up in crashed) and it didn't survive that crash but this is what it was and what it became several months before the crash. 'Till this day this is the hardest loss I've had in the hobby. I miss this coral every single time I see a cap.

Here is one that was probably in early 2008 when I first glued the frags:
