O.K., this is starting to be too much...

First pic taken on 9/30/2005 (some of you have seen this one already)

In short...better take care of any unwanted growth before it's too much.

Granted, so far the clam does not seem to be affected, but still. Specially since I'm trying to erradicate mushroom polyps and zoanthids from my tank.

Take care.

It depends on the stinging power of the any given animal. i.e. I would not permit a carpet anemone go near my clams. Also I try to avoid (as much as realistically possible) having corals touch the mantle of my clams. Right now the zoanthids and mushrooms are starting to compete with the clam for the top of the shell. Tha'ts why I need to take action on this. But asides from that, the clam does not seem to be affected by either coral.

Omar is right. right now the clam should be fine but in the long run the zoa and mushrooms will over take the clam.

Omar your clams and tank are looking great!!! can i get some full tank shots:eek1:

Mmbuna, thanks, I'll try to post some pics tomorrow, but there's really not much to see, since I took all the rocks out, now it looks kind of empty. But what I'll do is post some before and some after pictures.

I took all the LR out to get away from this:

So now this is what it looks like:

The thing is that mushrooms are extremely prolific corals and will cover everything, including SPS and the shell of clams. Given that my primary interest for a reef tank is really to keep clams and whatever else may be compatible with them, well, I just found the mushrooms to be incompatible in the overall goal of my reefkeeping experience.
