GSP taking over

Well, early on I didn't plan very well and didn't realize how fast these buggers grow so they have been pretty quickly encroaching a good majorit of the tank. What is the best way of stopping the spread of GSP's? For a LONG time I have just been pullig it out by hand as they take over some SPS...which is getting tiresome to say the least.

So what the best way of removing them as they are already established?

after looking at the pic, i forgot that the big ball of GSP in the back corner used to be another catspaw...luckily that sps has popped up all over the place as well

I would take the rocks with the gsp on them out and replacing with new rock. You wouldn't want to try and kill it because it would most likely cause a huge spike. It's encrusted and the only way to get rid of it is remove it. If any of your sps has some gsp on the rock those have to come out too. I could fresh cut them and remount. gl with that battle. hope you win! lol ;)

as much as i love GSP, it only has two places in this hobby, on the glass or overflows, or in the sand...makes removal a snap...i kinda like the look of your grassy knolls though...very zen like...

Bummer.. I have my gsp encrusting on this thin not so dense rock. If I ever wanted to sell it, all I have to do is take it out of the tank. I plan on letting grow on the entire rock.

You can usually get ahold of the edge and just pull the whole matting right off the rocks. Will definitly take some time and patience but it should come off fairly easily. At least most of it.

It looks great!!! I'd just keep it as is, but otherwise I'd sell it or use it for store credit at a LFS

Sell it or dry the rock out then soak it in ro water and muratic acid. GSP is one of those you have to control, or it takes over.

i have never had this problem.....and its one i wanted as my tank is BB and id love to have it cover the bottom of my tank

In all my tanks I have exiled my GSP to one rock up againsst the glass and overflow and let it grow there. THen it is easy to remove and sell and it makes a good "wall" of pretty!

Put a rock ever the parts you want to die. THis will cause the polyp to die slowly so there won't be a fast buildup of dead matter to hurt you levels. Do frequent water changes and your levels should not be a concern. When the polyp dies leave the rock and let the stars grow on to the rock. When they cover it either give the rock to a LFS for credit, or if you don't have that option simply sterilize the rock in a different place. Put a new rock back in pace and you have a movable barrier for your star polyps.
