H&S External or in sump?

I am close to choosing an H&S over the Deltec. When I checked Fins Reef site, they were pretty much out of stock on external. Which do you prefer, external or in sump, and please state your reason or reasons. Also, are there other places to purchase the H&S?

they can be purchased at a lot of places...but their customer serive is not all there.. thats why a lot of people chose Deltec.. one man one call and all is done.. that is not the case with H&S

external is better. less heat but into the tank

I would buy from Brian or Eric at Finsreef anyday. The guys stand beside the products they sell. They don't sell just one brand and will often inform you which they think is best in your particular situation.

As for one man one call...do a search on Deltec and you will find chinks in their armor as well.


King...I chose the external because it saves space inside sump for me and is easier to access. It is also reportedly more flexible than in sump. Bebo is right in that it probably shaves a bit off the temp especially if you go with multiple rc pumps.

It may not be readily apparent, but the external is a recirculating skimmer and the in sump is not.

Whoa. Whoa. Where did you hear this??? Brian IS THE MAN. He sat on the phone with me after hours to help me set up my H&S. And when I need a fitting, he overnighted it to me free of charge. And I am by NO means an isolated case. Everyone who owns one will say the same thing. Doug does give great CS, but he is no longer the only one.

As for external ot internal, I would choose the external. This way you can control the turnover inside the skimmer and if you want to run it insump, you can do that too.

I just purchased an H&S A150 external from Brian at Finsreef. The unit is great and the customer service from Finsreef is to say the least awesome.
