Hawaiian sailfin leaf fish

DFS,

I had three questions about these fish.

First, how would they fair with a smaller hi-fin goby?
Second, they are mentioned as caution with reef, is there a certain item (lps, sps, inverts) that they enjoy more?
Third, do you get them fairly often? I only ask because I'm leaving on Sat for 2 weeks for my job training and won't be able to get them and monitor them.

Thanks

etrigo29,

Thank you for your questions. We do not recommend housing the Leaf Fish with the Hi Fin Goby as it is know for consuming smaller fish and invertebrates. Therefore, caution is required in a reef setting containing these animals. However, the Leaf Fish is not know to harm corals and will spend much of it’s time on exposed perches.

We do offer this species on our Diver’s Den quite frequently. We suggest signing up for our email alerts at: http://www.liveaquaria.com/DiversDen/DDemailSignUp_form.cfm.

thanks dfs for the info.

when you say inverts....smaller inverts or would a medium to larger size cleaner shrimp be okay. If your wondering about tank size, 120

etrigo29,

We do not recommend putting any type of cleaner shrimp in with this species. The diet of the Leaf Fish consists mainly of live feeder fish and shrimp. Anything that is the same size as it is, or smaller, may quickly become dinner for the Leaf Fish.
