Heat and Macro

Has anyone ever had a problem with there macro shriveling up and dieing due to heat?

I think i did, i walked into my tank room to find that the tank was at 88 degree's death for most, i quickly threw some icecubs in the fuge to help cool it down and installed an air-condition. My macro was translucent and dieing would this have been from the intense heat?

I think maybe icecubs in a plastic bag might be a better idea next time your heat goes too high. I mean unless you are using RODI to fill the icecube tray you might get lots of nasty stuff. ie refrigerater icecube maker in my house has copper tubing leading into the fridge.

fwiw I feel it depends on the algae. I have a 200 gal algae grow out system partly outside and certain species will not take the heat. Last month (the hottest month here in AZ) my system hit 90 degrees in the middle of the day for a while. The Caulerpa prolifera, C. racemosa, C. sertularioides, and Halymenia didn't fare so well with some dying and making me move a bunch indoors. The C. mexicana, Kalymenia and the Chaetomorpha did better. The Chaetomorpha is growing like a weed in the heat and lately I have had to get rid of a 5 gallon bucket full every few weeks. SO yes just as in other marine organisms, algae has its limits with regards to changes in temperature.
The quick change in temp (and maybe even salinity) that occured when you put ice cubes in the refugium probably did more harm than good, but it may have been a lost cause anyway.

I practically boiled the water in my prop tanks, with a refugium attached. (Well, 96 degrees anyway) and thogh I had a total loss of fish and hard corals, the zoanthids survived as did the Halimeda and chaetomorpha (they didn't even seem affected)

I ran my chaeto tank at about 90 degrees for over a month and it still grew. My heater was adjusted accidently and I never noticed it until I stuck a thermostat in there.

my grape caulerpa in refugium grow damn well, running constantly in 31 - 32 degress Celcius.

No chiller, and I live in a hot country.
