Heater question.

I want to put my heaters in my sump (this idea came from one of books)...So here is my question:

I bought two 250w heaters (that is what is said to be needed for my tank), but they are huge and will hardly fit in my sump. So would smaller heaters heat up the sump water enough to heat the entire tank? or do they need to be the big ones that I have now?

Let me know.

Thanks

What size tank do you have? What kind equipment are you going to run (big CL, big return, bigger skimmer or a FOWLR with 2 HOB filters)?

55gal corner tank
a 15gallon sump i think; its smaller
a coral life skimmer
a mag 9.5 hooked into a OM 4-way
will be housing sps, lps, zaos and fish

I have a 55g with a 15g sump and a 150w ebo jager and it heats the tank perfectly. I think 2 250w heaters is a little much

I think you'd be fine with a 250w/300w heater... or you can go can go with 2 100w heaters.

What I am doing is having two, but one is a back up if the other fails. So I might want to have 4 100W's?

The ones I have hardly fit in my sump, so I wanted to down size heaters, since smaller heaters would be enough to heat all the water in the sump, but not sure if that would heat the main tank up enough...
