Hello i wanted to try and breed green bird wrasses, is it possible?

thanks, i was gonna use my 150 gallon tank and already have one male who is doing well have had him a few months but am afraid to put a female in yet, maybe i should put a few females in at once not sure, thanks

Hey Marty-
everything is possible. One thing about wrasses they require fairly tall tanks for their spawning ascensions and they are haremic fish. Suggesting that you need more than 1 female around to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately in our smaller tanks many of the same species don't tolerate each other very well. But you can try w/ one male & 1 female and see whats happens
So can it be done... but you migfht have to adapt your current situation to something more condusive to wrasses

I have a book (Erfolgreiche Nachzuchten im Meerwasseraquarium, by Joachim Frische) that lists Gomphosus varius (bird nose) as having been breed in a scintific environment. There is no reference to any further information on this species. and it is a little hard to read the book in german.

It also lists cleaner wrasses and Macropharyngodon bipartitus as being the other species to have been breed, in the wrasse group at least.
