what is this purple brownish algea that is growing over every thing in my 14 month old tank how bad is and how do i get rid of it im running phosban and a phosphate remover pad in my wet dry im sorry i dont have any pictures

This algae is usually due to low flow... What kind of circulation do you have in your tank and how big is it etc? Do you use RO/DI water? Its called Cyano btw...

Of course I could be wrong.

You are probably seeing a growth of cyanobacteria in your tank. If you have a look at some of the active algae threads in this forum, you will see a lot of good advice on eliminating it. In a word, it's all about controlling the amount of nutrients in your tank water. Protein skimming, live refugiums, regular water changes and appropriate water flow to avoid dead areas that accumulate detritus are some of the many strategies employed to deter cyanobacteria. See Julian Sprung's book "Algae: A Problem Solver Guide" for lots more details.

usually grows in close proximity to decaying detritus. Try removing as much as you can and blasting the rocks/cleaning your sandbed. You're not exporting nutrients fast enough.
