I'm getting ready to go to HD and buy the needed plumbing and i would like to make sure i get things right, tank is RR, center overflow w/20 gal sump.
This is my first RR tank, i've always had HOB plumbing.
So i want to things right the first time. i want to use gate valves for any posable maintence and to control flow if needed.
give me suggestions for external skimmer so i can have a fuge and in-sump just in case w/return pump size. i want to split my return in the tank so i can try to aviod using PH's & maybe just have one.
tank will be on a regular height stand.

also do you know if an Oceanic sump can be drilled, it's not tempered glass is it.

Well without knowing anything about your tank or how big the overflow holes are then it will be impossible to recommend a pump. I doubt you will get enough flow throught the return to eliminate your powerheads so you better keep them. Also without knowing the tank size then it is also impossible to recommend a skimmer.

The tank is a 72 gal BF.
I have 1-1/4 bulkhead for drain & 1" bulkhead for return.

Thanks
