I bought a hammer coral yesterday. It had about 50 heads on it and a bunch of little buds.I broke it in half And put half in my main tank and half in my frag tank. This morning it looks like all the heads in the main tank were dead and the fish were eating the pieces that were left on the branch and floating in the water. My water looks a little cloudy today as well. The coral in the frag tank is doing ok.What happened?I don't want to kill any thing else .

WHAT DO I DO????????????

I'd say acclimation, change in salinity, alkalinity or ph---only way you can prove that now is testing tank water vs prop tank water and seeing if there's a difference.

Other possibility is a stony with a long reach downwind, or moving it into the downstream of a softie like colt, which can do more damage faster.

The tank is a 125 rr
2 175 10k mh
salinity--1.025
phos--0
nitrate--0
calc---420
alk----9.5
ph-----8.2
temp---78
I bought this from a guy taking down his tank. The drive home was a half hour in his tank water.the piece was to big for anything but a bucket so I added a cup of water at a every 5 minutes for about 20 minutes then added to tank.
I am pretty sure the coral is a gonner.I need help with damage control.

right now I am making more water for a water change. While I am waiting I cranked up my skimmer making it very wet skimmate.
What do you guys think am I on the right track???
Thanks in advance for you help

I would recommend you use some fresh carbon as well. That thing melting down like that is bound to P'O' some existing corals you may have. It may also help any remaining buds, if the cause was allopathic, but it would make your other corals breathe easier at the very least while your dialing things in. Good luck!
