How many of us have changed our 60 watt light bulbs to the energy efficient 13 watt bulbs?
ME! :D

I'm recycling more, too.

We as a nation waste energy on an enormous scale by driving fuel guzzling vehicles, over heating or over air conditioning our homes and businesses, and many other practices like waiting in line for crap fast food or that essential Dunken Donuts Coolatta that we need so badly!

If it takes price hikes to get us to conserve, then so be it!

If we could get avg fleet mpg up into the high 20's we would'nt be seeing gas at $3/gal or heating oil at $2.60.

And its not a matter of better technology, people just need to buy vehicles that make sense rather than planet destroying Suburbans, Yukons, HumVees, Escalades, Expeditions, Navigators, etc. etc.

We didn't need them 20 yrs ago. Why do we need them now. Same goes for McMansions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with what your saying but...What about the people who are already tring to conserve. The ones who don't eat fastfood crap, or drive oversize gas guzzling whores. Typically the only people I see wasting are USUALLY the one who have the extra money to throw around and don't care what things cost.

It's the average Joe who is getting screwed on this deal. Where's the "reward" for people who ARE conserving? Oh wait, the reward was a 40% rate hike. Thank you CLP. You really think the majority of people who waste give 2 $h!t$ about a paying an extra 100 bucks a month? NO!

Don't you think that maybe the people who overdrive usage should pay the extra for their waste? And maybe people who don't should have their rate at least stay unchanged. I know that a DISCOUNT is way too much to ask of the energy people. After all they may not gross billions in quarterly profits to pad their greedy pockets with. And don't even say they couldn't track who abuses. After all ever home I see still has a damn meter on it!!!

Oh yeah, BTW I do drive an SUV. Its standard size and a 6 cyl.

Like I said earlier...**** 'em all!:blown:

Me too!!!! The only people who try to conserve are the ones who really can't afford not to.

I have always tried to conserve anywhere i can. My elec was the highest last mth @ $230. Usually i can keep it around $130 but the heat wave made us turn on the A/C for a few days! My home is naturally efficent (Log Cabin) cooler in the summer and warmer in winter. I usually only use 1 tank (275 gal. thru the winter. Wood stove helps too.) I have changed every bulb that can be to the "curly" efficent ones. On my 125 i spent the $$ on Tunze because of GPH and elec. they are very efficent! I also run T 5's as well. I figure my tank costs an extra $40 +/- a mth. As for the vehicles i drive 4 cyl to work and wifey has the 6 cyl van for the kids. But i also have a older full size pkup cab and a half(Big Block 390cid :cD) I need that as i haul wood, load it for the town dump and tow a 32' camper. You simply CAN'T do that with a smaller vehicle... even a big 6 cyl would strain pulling my camper. Thats my story...I try to save where i can but there are times when it's just unavoidable.

I agree that each individuals contribution in energy reduction is small and that the people who can afford to waste do waste. However, this is why it is important that each one of us be advocates for waste reduction and point out to our friends and neighbors how important this is to our country and planet.

Oil is probably the richest and most potent form energy discovered to date other than nuclear and we're squandering it and it won't be coming back!!!

Collectively if society could reduce energy consumption by even just 5% we would see the price of oil drop dramatically. While all this may be unpopular since its our God given right to do whatever we want as long as its legal and we can afford it. Its just mindless to go on as we do.

In addition, our government is complict in this waste by not having taxes on waste (eg. gas guzzling tax, higher bottle recycling fees rather than just $.05, and other taxes on waste).

In March I was at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and as in all zoos/aquariums today they had many displays on saving the environment. One that caught my eye was the statement that in California in 2005 5 billion water bottles were purchased, but only 25% were recycled. They also stated that the energy used to make a new bottle was 85% greater than the energy required to make one from recycled material.

Just another example of huge huge waste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if you saw the news tonight, the State has bought a fuel cell powered bus. They are going to be getting it in the spring of '07. It is going to be the free comuter bus for downtown Hartford. The cost - $2.6 million.

As for shozbots comment on higher bottle fee's, I am mixed. Now, I don't take my emties back to the store. I let them pile up in the garage and give them to the scouts twice a year. $10.00 worth, not a big deal. But if you double the fee, that is $20 - that can buy me a nice frag, so I may not be so willing to just give my empties to the scouts. But I do agree, there should be a deposit on water bottles. It is amazing how many of those are seen on the side of the road.

Speaking of which, anyone know what the state does with all the empties they pick up from the sides of the roads?

Lower oil prices? Lower demand for oil? Not sure I like those thoughts. That would mean less money for the terrorists.

Wow I wish I had you guys bills. Last months light bill was $485. This month $338. Our house is only 1300 sq feet. In April we were like $100-$120. Big jump. I say there is something wrong with the meter but CL&P won't even come out and check it. I even cut the MH down to 4 hours a day. And we bought a new refrigerator. Our AC'S are around 4 years old. Gas water heater?????? or$$$$$$$$$$$ Bob

I went from $210's pre rate hike to $350's post. Thank God I'm moving out of this state at the end of this month ;)
