Right now I have a 120g fish only tank and a 24g aquapod reef. I have a perfect place downstairs to put a 135g tank. So the early thoughts have been to buy an all-glass tank with the internal overflows drilled and have a stand and canopy custom built.
For lights I have seen a few packages that are 3x150 mh with an extra couple hundred watts from either vho or pc. I have looked at the coralife models and the current-usa outer orbit. I think I can get the current-usa model for around $900, and I think it has timers, lunar lights, casing (not a retro fit), fans. Can I put this type of light under a canopy. I like the finished look vs. wires and boxes everywhere. The coralife is more expensive but does offer a 3x250w model. My thoughts are that 3x250 would be overkill considering the depth of the 135g. What spectrum for the halides 10, 13 or 20?
In my 120g I have triggers, a grouper, puffer, and a large blue morpho. No live rock. For filtration I have a pro clear aquatic wet/dry with a built in protein skimmer. The pump for the skimmer is a cap-1800, and a rio 32hf for the sump. I could buy the model that is for 300g tanks for around $300 or the 200g for around $250 with the skimmer built in, take out the bio-balls and trim down the sponges. Would it make sense to replace the bioballs with some LR or would it better to scrap the all-in-one deal and do a seperate skimmer and sump. I just like the cleaned up integrated look.
In my small reef I only dose with b-ionic. I would do all of the testing needed in the larger tank. I would probably have 175-200lbs of LR, use RO water and dont want to be limited to what I can keep (within reason). I would also consider putting a small fuge under the tank. Would a 20-30 gallon tank with a few pc lights work? Also what is the best way to incorporate a fuge, do you just have the water pumped in and out of the sump?
If the search worked I wouldnt be asking all of this, thanks.
