I have zebra, scarlet and red-tip hermits in my tank and they don't seem to bother the clams at all, except when they decide to go clam-climbing and try to walk across the mantle.
I've been startled a few times hearing a loud 'crack' as a hermit is flung into the tank glass by an irritated clam... a span of several inches.
I figure after getting cannonballed a few times the crabs will learn their lesson and keep their distance.
