High End SPS?

At the swap I heard several people mention "high end" SPS's. What is considered a "high end" sps? What makes it so, cost? Difficulty? Rareness? All of the above?

What are some pieces that are considered high end?

Usually the most colorful ones. Rarity has something to do with it as well.

Example: Orange Crush Acro

Some corals are rare or difficult to keep - but the whole idea of "high end" is a matter of opinion. There is no "Gold standard" list of what is considered "high end" or "medium" or "low end" that I have ever heard of.

high end = tyree ora any le that u dont see a bunch of which is also alot of the slow growers that are hard to keep

High End SPS are usually the most colorful and they tend to hold there color in our captive systems. This in turn drives the price up. I personally try to keep the most colorful pieces in my little tank. Did you get some Monti cap at the swap?

I should also add the High End SPS also grow very slowly adding to the high price tag.

I was given some orange cap and purple cap a few weeks ago, and both have been doing well.

I reserved a few frags on fragswapper and made a couple impulse buys.

Got a little bit of everything:

Sunset Montipora
Green/yellow Birdsnest
Tri-color acro
Red planet
Green Slimer
Cosmic Chalice
Agent orange zoas
King midas Zoa
Pink Blastomussa merletti

No bleaching or melting yet, so that is a plus :spin3:

i have been dosing a low concentration of lime water for about a month and have some gfo and carbon running.

Keeping an eye on calcium, alk, mag, ph, nitrates and phosphates.

I am a ready and willing guinea pig! I have a new camera I have been fiddling with, just got to work on the white levels to get a good coloration. I may get some pictures taken tonight provided my daughter peacfuly goes to sleep! You have given me some motivation to get pictures taken.

Very few people have them, everyone wants them, prices are ridiculous and the hype and discussions on the forums are intense( recent example red dragon acro) irrespective of how they look. Eventually everyone has them the prices plummet and they become a regular acro. Unless u want to brag about being the owner of something no one else has I would advise you to buy and keep corals u like in your tank. Ultimately the beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I have always been one to only keep what I like, thanks for the advice. Off topic, but can I come swim in your 560 gallon tank when it is done?

+1, you pay for the name and most are either slow growers or hard to keep longterm. Sometimes the named stuff is hardier from being captive grown for so long. A coral that grows like a weed usually wont hold its value tho.

Nice Nathan. I love your GREEN Green Slimer. Your Sunset Monti looks to be a Rainbow Monti. All of your frags look great!
I agree with Vivek, don't buy into the hype of over priced corals. That Red Dargon looked like a $40.00 frag and not a $300.00 dollar frag.
