The retailer's just taking advantage of the current Micromussa ridiculousness. Ridiculous trends - ridiculous prices. Don't blame them - it'll probably sell.

i hate all these damn trends. people always post pics of a sweet coral on forums like these, other people go crazy over them, buy them up, and retailers jack up the prices... blah! supply and demand i guess. but nothing ****es me off more than retailers charging $/polyp for zoas! give me a break!
Ryan, that is not really the case. The reality is that these are increadibly hard to find right now. They are actually rare. That, combined with high demand has allowed the folks who collect the corals to charge more to wholesalers. The wholesalers don't get many in and when they do, they have to sell them high to cover their cost. Only a few stores in the country get the majority of these (thecaptivereef, darklordcoral, jendub, etc.) and they have to pay a lot for them. By the time we have a chance to buy them, we either buy a polyp or blow our whole paycheck (I have, unfortunately, done both). Like I said earlier, though, it doesn't make sense to buy these because they are rare (remember when people use to give away blastos and xenia was hard to come by?), but if you like them (as I do), you don't have much of a choice but to pay a bunch. At least they are hardy.

i agree the color is hot! but $800. thats a bit steep.

lol first acans then these, the funniest is people buy them...i guess its a competitive/show and tell between some reefers.

I personally do not think that 34 bucks a polyp for a micro of that color is a bad deal. I personally prefer aquacultured micros...but... it is considerably less then I have paid per polyp from other places. Micros are rare, they barely come in and when theyn do, they get cherry picked. C'mon people you know its not frogspawn or caulastrea. How often do you see nice size colonies of this color or really any amakusensis at your local LFS? I have been in the hobby for almost a decade and have NEVER SEEN A SINGLE COLONY at any store is MD, PA, NY or NY..... If u are not into rare color / species corals then I understand why you would think this is crazy, and you are probably the same people who think a car just gets you from point a to point b:rollface:

Man this makes the colony I passed up on a few months ago look like a steal. Same color bigger colony half the price.
The color is extremely nice. But if you really like it and think about it, how often will you see something like that again? So do you buy it or regret it when they don't have it next week?
As THEPHISHGUY said $34 a polyp? Not too bad. I've paid $50 a polyp, do I regret it? No. I wasn't thrilled about it and its not something I'll do all the time. Will I do it again, of course I will.

For the most part, yes. Some colors grow faster then others. I've got red with white stripes that grows pretty fast, maybe 2 or 3 polyps a month. My favorite, pink, green, yellow, 1 polyp since I got it 4 months ago. And its a baby, smaller then this --->
