Highest PAR screw-in LED bulb?

Hello all,

Researching screw-in full spectrum LED bulbs.

Coral Compulsion's highest PAR one is:

35W PAR38 LED 18K TRUCOLOR G2 DIMMABLE REEF LIGHT

Anything as good or better out there?

I'm looking for something over a 60g cube...24x24x24, no SPS's or clams....softies, plates, pallys/zoas, maybe a RBTA.

Just getting the (new to me) 60g set up...currently has a lower watt Coral Compulsion bulb over it. I love the look but doubt it will support much

nems need lights that are comparable to what you would want over an sps tank imo

that being said I would probably use 2-3 in a 60g

I was thinking of getting some of these or something similar in my 90 and I figured id spring for 3 of them later on, i have no sps just lps and softies

I had a healthy green BTA in a 37 gallon tall with 2x powercompact bulbs for 10 years... Pretty sure that's nowhere even close to the par you'd need for SPS.

I got mine from RapidLED. They are about the same I think and they seem to be working good on my tank, I have a few corals that are growing under them, just try it and see.

I think this one is very similar, cheaper and they claim 120 par at 24". I would say it is better to risk this one than the $129.99 you linked.

I don't know about the active cooling fan, I'd prefer passive cooling via well made heat sink, one less thing to fail.

Am curious about these 36watt bulbs -

...and this 29watt 5000K daylight -

I just bought 4 of these but in cool white for our kitchen. One was dead upon arrival and they SUCK! Now the seller/manufacturer Ranpo is trying to make it almost impossible to get it exchanged. Be careful of these ebay vendors.

...oh well, at least you didn't sink much money into that 54w bulb.

I still don't care for the active cooling fan but that bulb looks just like CC's older model -

I'll try the 120 par one once the Christmas bills are paid....wife has us on a "code RED" spending lock-down right now.

Good mix of 16 2watt CREE LED's, I'm thinking about trying it too despite not liking the fan cooling.

I hear you about the code Red! If you beat me to it, let us know how you make out.

There is no way in hell that the 54W PAR38 is running at that wattage. They are using the same old Chinese marketing trick of stating that they have 18 3W class LEDs and calling it a 54W lamp, even though the LEDs are most likely run somewhere between 1W and 2W. Even at 2W per LED, it's pushing it for a passively cooled PAR38 format lamp. They also don't state the color temperature or wavelength of the LEDs being used. The use of the Cree logo is also dubious at best

I'd say you're right, it really isn't much better then the low watt Coral Compulsion bulb that came with the set up. I'm looking forward to trying the fan cooled one eventually.

I would go with a quality bulb, aka not from eBay. I have a Halo PAR38 bulb from lightbox LED over my tank right now(12 LEDs at 18W). It is very bright and made with actual Cree LEDs. That being said, I have 90 degree lenses on it and the coverage isn't great, I'd say you would need at least two over a 24" x 24" area. It is very similar to the Rapidled PAR38 bulb (12 LEDs at 19W).

I even found PAR readings for the Halo bulb: hung 9" above the water the PAR reading at 8" under the water is about 150.
That makes me pretty skeptical that you would actually get 120 PAR at 24" depth from that bulb from eBay.

If it were me I would go with the Coral compulsion bulb you found or something like the Rapidled and Halo bulbs. More exensive than the eBay bulbs, but IME you get what you pay for.
